Senior Structural Engineer

Position purpose – summary
This position is accountable for the provision of correct and accurate Structural engineering activities for all strategy areas, across all factory operations. The position will be responsible for managing both internal and external design efforts to ensure that assets and resources are capable of meeting business and legislative requirements.

Resposibilities
Design & Drafting
▪ Conduct detailed analysis and calculations to assess the structural integrity, stability, and loadbearing capacity of existing and new structural elements and foundations, in accordance with
relevant Business, Australian and International Engineering design standards.
▪ Work closely with Reliability, Projects and Engineering Services teams to ensure design scopes,
milestones and functional requirements are provided and clearly understood for design activities.
▪ Complete design activities in accordance with key milestone dates and within allocated budgets as
assigned by the Design Manager. Work closely with the Design Manager to provide input on
achievable milestone deliverable dates and required engineering design budgets.
▪ Determination of appropriate loads and pressures that may be caused by operational, environmental
or human influences and select appropriate construction materials based on these influencing
factors.
▪ Oversee the preparation of accurate and detailed structural drawings, plans and specifications that
effectively communicate the design intent and facilitate construction.
▪ Responsible for the development, review and compliance of the Companies Engineering suite of
standards, including: Engineering and Design workflow processes, Technical Specifications, and
General Engineering Requirements. Ensure that all the Companies engineering standards and
practices specific to structural engineering are in accordance with relevant statutory acts and
regulations.
▪ Responsbily utilise available design tools, equipment, and software packages to ensure design
activities are completed to a high standard, and appropriately maintain these resources and ensure
software packages are kept up to date.
▪ Work with external Engineering Design & Drafting companies to support the delivery of engineering
and design activities and provide technical support in areas of specific expertise.
▪ Undertake all work with a high standard of professionalism and ensure our external partners do the
same. This will ensure; competent practice, ethical conduct, economic benefit, environmental
sustainability and safety of our employees and community. This will be achieved by participation and
alignment with professional organisations such as Engineers Australia and ASSCT.
Continuous Improvement
▪ Audit design activities with respect to compliance with business and best practice processes, work
procedures and technical standards.
▪ Manage or participate in business improvement initiatives as nominated.
▪ Identify opportunities for improving the systems and process framework used for current and future
structural design activities.
Leading People
▪ Lead, guide and support the broader design team to achieve the goals and objectives set out in the
Business Plan.
▪ Provide technical advice, support and coaching in design processes to all stakeholders.
▪ Actively promote a high standard of professionalism and ethics of the engineering discipline within
the Engineering Design Team and the wider Company business.

Support Services
▪ Coach and mentor design and graduate engineers to improve knowledge and ability in the area of structural design and analysis software, engineering calculation, standards, processes and systems.
The tasks and responsibilities in this position description are not exhaustive and the incumbent may be required to undertake duties not included in this document, which are broadly in line with the role and skill set.
Capability requirements
Qualifications/experience
Essential:
• Tertiary qualification in an Engineering discipline.
• 5-10 years of structural engineering experience within a heavy industry environment.
• CPEng/RPEQ in the structural engineering discipline.
Desirable:
▪ Experience in Engineering Design Software, preferably in Space-gass.
▪ Project Management experience.
▪ Sugar industry experience.
Role-specific professional competencies
▪ Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and Engineering Standards
▪Engineering Design Software, FEA, Drafting Software Packages.
