Construction Labourer

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Construction Labourer to join our team. The successful candidate will support site supervisors, carpenters, and installers with the construction and installation of building wall and roof frames, external cladding systems, and window installations. This role is vital in ensuring site efficiency, safety, and quality standards are consistently met across all projects.

Key Responsibilities

A. Site Preparation and Setup

• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work site.
• Unload, move, and position materials, tools, and equipment.
• Assist in erecting and dismantling temporary structures, scaffolding, and platforms.
• Keep all work areas clear of debris and hazards at the end of each day.

B. Framing Support

• Assist with the erection of steel frames for walls and roofs.
• Measure, cut, and position framing materials under direction.
• Secure frames and fixings using appropriate tools and methods.
• Maintain proper alignment and structural integrity during installation.

C. Cladding Installation Assistance

• Prepare wall surfaces and stage cladding materials such as fibre cement, Colorbond, or composite panels.
• Assist in fixing cladding sheets, trims, and flashings according to design specifications.
• Apply sealants neatly to ensure watertight finishes.
• Handle coated or pre-finished materials with care to prevent damage.

D. Window Installation Support

• Assist in fitting and securing window frames and glazing units.
• Apply sealants and insulation under supervision.
• Clean frames and glass to maintain a professional finish.

E. Tools, Equipment & Material Handling

• Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Report damaged or unsafe tools immediately.
• Load, transport, and store materials carefully to prevent damage.
• Follow all safe manual-handling practices.

F. Work Health & Safety

• Adhere to company and site safety policies.
• Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
• Wear required PPE at all times (boots, hard hat, gloves, hi-vis, safety glasses, hearing protection).
• Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately.
• Maintain good housekeeping and clear access areas.

G. Teamwork and Communication

• Work under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, Leading Hand, and Factory Manager.
• Communicate respectfully with all team members and clients.
• Follow directions carefully and ask for clarification when needed.
• Contribute to a positive, safety-driven team environment.

Skills and Attributes

• Reliable, punctual, and physically fit for outdoor work.
• Basic knowledge of construction tools and materials.
• Willingness to learn framing, cladding, and window installation techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Commitment to safe work practices and teamwork.

Qualifications and Requirements

• White Card (Construction Induction).
• Current driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Previous experience in residential or light commercial construction preferred.

Reports to: Site Supervisor / Leading Hand / Factory Manager
Liaises with: Carpenters, Installers, and Subcontractors
